Our production of Project Jazz is an educational program that explores the evolution of the various types of dance and music that resulted in the exciting world of jazz dance.  This production is geared toward elementary school aged children but is appropriate for the whole family.  It is free of charge as part of our community outreach.
Project Jazz is brought to you by the same dance company that each year produces Christmas Joy, a celebration of the birth of Christ through dance.

Soil Science & Home Composting
April 21 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House
This workshop will cover how to determine your soil’s strengths and weaknesses as well as how to build healthy soil by composting. A successful garden is built on healthy soil!

Forest Ecology of the East Mountains
April 28 from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. at Sabino Canyon Open Space
Learn about the complex nature and history of our forests,  best management practices used by professional land managers, and how to prevent large-scale fires that threaten our forests today. The talk will be led by Sue Hansen Putze, District Manager of Ciudad Soil and Water Conservation District. Mrs. Hansen Putze will also discuss fuel thinning, pests, and forest health.

Celebrate Arbor Day!
April 29 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.at Bachechi Open Space
Don’t miss out on this family fun event. Rotate through different stations led by local experts to learn all about trees:
·       Experienced arborists will answer all of your tree care questions including pest management and proper pruning and planting techniques.
·       US Foresters will lead a Project Learning Tree activity for youth and families presenting the importance of trees to our daily lives.
·       Master Naturalists will present on tree anatomy and trees as wildlife habitat—featuring live birds of prey from Wildlife Rescue!
Additionally, there will be a free native tree/shrub give-away for the first 50 people who register for this event!

Wildlife Day at Rio Grande Community Farm, April 28‏

Come to Wildlife Day at Rio Grande Community Farm!  
On April 28, from 8 am until 2 pm, the day will be filled with activities for the whole family
including bird watching, a hayride, a farm tour, geocaching, kids activities, wildflower seed planting, and a composting workshop.  

This is a free event.  Bring your bikes, binoculars, and a picnic, and make a day of it!

Healthy Kids Day

On Saturday, April 28, we are celebrating Healthy Kids Day® with free community events that will help families find fun through active play and educational opportunities to improve health and well-being. As part of the Y’s commitment to strengthening community by addressing critical gaps in health and education, Healthy Kids Day will encourage kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active now and throughout the summer.

At Healthy Kids Day, the nation’s largest health day for kids, families will enjoy fitness demonstrations and activities, inflatable jumpers for kids, arts and crafts, music, give-a-ways, vendors and much, much more.

Classic Car Show Event Information
Calling all Car Owners and Enthusiasts!

Be a part of the 2012 Annual Park 'n the Park Car Show! The show will be held at Cabezon Park, 2307 Cabezon Blvd SE, on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

Park ‘n the Park is free to spectators from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The grounds of Cabezon Park are transformed when more than 350 antique and classic automobiles go on display. Car clubs from all over the state are represented during this event, while auto collectors and enthusiasts share the fond memories of the classic cars of yesteryear.

In conjunction with the car show, there will be arts & crafts booths and a variety of food vendors. Between the awesome cars, food, and crafts, this should be an exciting day for participants and spectators alike.

Once again, we are proud to have Steve’s Crusin’ with the Oldies as our musical entertainer for the Car Show.
