My name is Jackie and I have decided to start home schooling my 6th and 9th grade boys. I am a little nervous and very excited at the same time! if anyone has and advice, tips or resources please let me know. This is a big step for my family but, I feel it will be an amazing one! :)

Hi Jacki, I made the switch to homeschool 3 years ago when my daughters were 1st and 5th grade. It's been a great choice for us. I live in NH still, but will be moving in October to Abq. The best advice I was given my first year was: 1. get a support/ play group. It kept the kids happy and me sane!! 2. Take it easy on yourself and your kids- they may need some time to adjust and learn to love learning again. If it doesn't work how you thought it would, try something different! 3. make sure your teens have peers they see often! My oldest is now almost 14 and without her group of teen friends I'm sure she'd be back in school. hanging out with younger kids does not meet a teens need for friend time, even if they are nice to them. I'm sure My oldest would love to meet your boys when we get there! I hope this helps some. It is exciting and scarey all at once, I've learned to be flexible with our schooling and there are days where we just have to say we're done for the day and it's ok!!
